The following day is yours to choose—a complimentary round-trip train ride to Venice, or more time in Treviso’s Prosecco wine region to soak in the authentic Italian countryside. Cross the Alps into the Austrian mountain town of Villach—a sight to see with picturesque shimmering lakes. The options are yours for the choosing—from bike rides to an exhibition in falconry at the lofty Landskron Castle. Then, it’s off to Salzburg. You might recognize the settings where The Sound of Music was filmed in the city of Mozart’s birth. Optional activities and excursions are easy to find on jbs tours to make the day your own. Join a guided walk from Krems to Mautern a.d. Donau to experience a bit of the Wachau World Heritage Trail along the Danube River. Charming Italian Character Your adventure begins in Treviso, a charming, off-the-beaten-path town. If you arrive early, take a walk in the old town center, with its canals, medieval walls, and arcades. Veneto Vineyards Your tour now takes you to the heart of the Prosecco wine region in Treviso, that typifies the small north Italian town with its traditions and beauty. With Venice just a 45-minute train trip away, your round-trip train ticket is complimentary to and from Venice Santa Lucia Station. You can choose to spend as much time as you wish in Venice exploring or enjoy a romantic evening before returning to Treviso for the night. Breakfast DAY 3 Treviso—Villach, Austria. Italian Art and the Austrian Alps Before crossing the border into Austria, we’ll stop in San Daniele del Friuli, where you may opt to taste the delicious San Daniele ham and see how this local specialty is produced. You’ll have time to explore with a stroll to soak up the charm of the village, including the Renaissance art in the Sant’Antonio Abate church. You’ll see why its frescoed chapel is called the “Sistine Chapel of Friuli.” Later, we cross the Alps into Carinthia and arrive in Villach, a picturesque Austrian mountain town surrounded by shimmering lakes. Breakfast DAY 4 Villach—Salzburg. The Drava River and Birds of Prey This morning is a perfect chance to explore Villach’s Drava River trail with a jog, walk, or bike rental. Or take a more laid-back approach on an optional visit to lofty Landskron Castle to see a fascinating falconry exhibition. Later, we depart for Salzburg. Your Tour Director is sure to have helpful tips for exploring Mozart’s birthplace! Breakfast DAY 5 Salzburg. A Musical Storybook Setting Salzburg’s storybook city center is full of surprises. Its baroque churches, palaces and castles, narrow streets and hidden courtyards are all protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Of course, music plays a big role in the city’s fame, not only as the birthplace of Mozart, but also as the film setting of the beloved The Sound of Music. As you explore the town center, don’t forget to stop at a Konditorei (pastry shop) to sample Salzburg’s famous marzipan pralines. Optional excursions are easy to schedule with MyCOSMOS. Breakfast DAY 6 Salzburg—Krems—Vienna. Vienna Waltzes along the Blue Danube On the way to waltzing Vienna, stretch your legs with a scenic walk along the banks of the Danube from Mautern an der Donau to Krems. It’s just a fraction of the 112-mile-long Wachau World Heritage Trail that links the 13 municipalities of the Wachau Valley. Later, take time to relax as we head to the captivating capital city of Austria. Breakfast DAY 7 Vienna. The City of Music, Museums, and Marvelous Sweets Vienna is a fascinating city. Under the grandeur of its baroque beauty hides the buzzing life of a capital and university city. Discover the blend of old and new Vienna by taking in the many museums, contemporary art galleries, or a traditional coffee shop to sample a Sachertorte. Your Tour Director can share lots of suggestions, but you’re free to decide how to enjoy your time in Vienna your way! Breakfast DAY 8 Vienna. Your adventure ends in Vienna this morning. Discover the stunning seaside villages of Cinque Terre by train and ask your Tour Director for suggestions on shopping and culinary treats. Next stop is the colorful seaport of Genoa. Take an optional tour to explore its narrow streets for a Genovese lunch before heading for the fashion mecca of Milan. You may decide to visit the famous sights like the Colosseum and the Roman Forum, or go off the beaten path to discover local sidewalks and secrets. Your Tour Director can suggest plenty of haunts and hideaways, or you might opt to reserve your spot on a guided tour of the Vatican with MyCOSMOS. Breakfast DAY 3 Rome—Grosseto—Bolgheri—Marina di Cecina. City Cobblestones to Tuscan Countryside Visit the friendly, laid-back town of Grosseto, where you can stroll through the beautiful piazza to see its cathedral and try one of the many cafes. (Your Tour Director knows the best ones!) You’ll also have time in Bolgheri, a lovely little village where good food and wine are a way of life. Tonight you’ll stay in a charming Italian seaside resort town, Marina di Cecina. Breakfast DAY 4 Marina di Cecina. Sea, Sand and Sights Relax on the beach or take a walk along the centuries-old pine tree forest skirting the Etruscan Riviera. Another option is to book a trip to discover the walled city of Monte Riggioni and San Gimignano, also known as the “medieval Manhattan.” To enhance your experience, a wine tasting is included. Breakfast DAY 5 Marina di Cecina—La Spezia—Cinque Terre—Genoa. All Aboard to Cinque Terre! After greeting the day in Marina di Cecina, you’ll travel north to La Spezia. Hop aboard a train to discover Cinque Terre, a car-free, colorful string of five fishing villages. Ask your Tour Director the best way to soak up the charm of these spectacular landscapes before traveling on to Genoa—former Maritime Republic and birthplace of Christopher Columbus. Breakfast DAY 6 Genoa—Milan. Seaside Genoa & Stylish Milan What better place to relax than in Italy’s most colorful seaport? Explore the maze of narrow streets of Genoa’s medieval Caruggi district on our optional guided tour with a typical Genovese lunch. You may cancel your travel arrangements at any time. Written notification or an e-mail to that effect from the person who made the booking must be received at our office. The applicable cancellation charges are as per the published cancellation policy below: Cancellation charges per person ✓ Prior to 45 days or more: No charge at all. ✓ Between 44-31 days of departure: 30% of tour cost ✓ Between 30-11 days of departure: 50% of tour cost ✓ 10 days to date of departure: 70% of tour cost The above may vary based on any specific cancellation charges as charged by the third party service provider.
